R Project for web scraping Wikipedia looking for dates when confederate statues were erected
This is so wild. Let this sink in.
This was motivated by my recent trip to South Carolina and seeing my first confederate statue. I am not sure why we glorify these people who fought for people to be enslaved.

Each row in the data is a year recorded for an entry on Wikipedia’s lists of Confederate monuments, memorials, and named places (schools, counties, and so on). An entry can record more than one year, so the counts below are recorded year entries, not unique statues or installation dates.
Also, we witness the most recorded year entries in a single year in 1910 with 47 entries.
These bins are 5 years wide and centered on multiples of five (for example, 1910 covers 1908 through 1912), matching the chart in the confederate_statues repository.
